"Android is starting" Loop Issue

This guide outlines the steps to resolve an issue where an M-Series head unit is stuck on a looping "Android starting" screen.


Problem Symptoms


  • The unit is stuck on a continuous loop displaying "Android starting".
  • The unit may automatically enter Android Auto but cannot return to the home screen.
  • The issue may occur after downloading certain applications.
    Troubleshooting Steps


    1. Access Settings via Android Auto: While the unit is in Android Auto, swipe down from the top of the screen twice to reveal the shortcut menu.
    2. Bypass the Start Screen: Select the Settings icon from the menu to bypass the "Android starting" screen.
    3. Navigate to Device Information: Go to Car Infotainment, scroll down, and select About Device.
    4. Enter Factory Settings: Tap the settings cog/gear icon and enter the passcode 8878, then hit OK.
    5. Perform a Factory Reset: Select Erase all content to perform a full system restart.
      Result


      • Performing this reset will clear all installed apps and any software conflicts causing the loop.
      • The unit should return to normal operation.
