This following troubleshooting guide addresses power issues when installing a head unit and the screen is not receiving any power and will not boot up.

Diagnosis

  • Identify the Problem Wire: Locate the black ground wire situated next to the yellow battery wire on the car adapter plug.
  • Test with a Multimeter: Use a multimeter to test the black wire.
  • Analyze Results: If the black ground wire is incorrectly receiving 12 volts instead of providing a ground, this is the cause of the power failure.
    Resolution

    • Cut the Wire: Sever the black wire at the adapter plug point where it was receiving the 12-volt signal.
    • Establish a New Ground: Connect the remaining wire from the unit side to a solid chassis ground. Suggested method is to attach a ground wire to a bolt on the metal plate located behind the head unit.
    • Verify: Once a proper ground is established, the unit should boot up normally.
