This guide explains how to change the home screen widget of a G-Series head unit, specifically addressing the Google Maps widget as well.

Understanding the Map Widget Issue

By default, the unit displays Google Maps, which may not track location accurately because it requires an active internet connection. While users often connect their phones via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto (which uses the phone’s data), the unit itself would require its own Wi-Fi, SIM card, or hotspot connection for the default map to function correctly.

Customizing the Home Screen

Since the Google Maps widget may not be ideal for all users, the unit allows for other applications to be placed in that screen area, such as music apps or offline mapping tools.

Steps to Change the Home Screen Widget

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to the General tab.
  3. Select Launcher App.
  4. Choose your desired app to add and confirm with the checkmark. Some apps may not be supported due to software limitations.

    Notes

If an app does not work well within the small window widget, you can tap it to view it in full screen instead.
